Work schedule:          40 hours/week, 12 months/year

Salary range:              $65,000-$70,000/year, depending on experience

Job Summary
As a key member of the church’s professional staff, the Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of the property to ensure a safe, efficient, beautiful, and functional environment. The Facilities Manager manages the church building, rental property maintenance, and the grounds on the campus of First Parish in Concord at 20 Lexington Road. This includes managing part-time employees and supervising subcontractors who perform maintenance, cleaning, landscaping, and snow removal on the property. The Facilities Manager interacts with a variety of parishioners, vendors, and staff colleagues. This role requires strong negotiation skills, technical expertise as a contractor and landscaper, and the ability to effectively manage a team. 

Principal Responsibilities

Manage the maintenance of the church and other historic structures on the First Parish campus, keeping the property in clean, tidy, attractive, organized, and accessible condition.

  • Arrange for and supervise property maintenance and repairs.
  • Arrange for and supervise needed inspections in the buildings.
  • Hire, schedule, direct, and supervise part-time sextons for light maintenance and help with event logistics.
  • Purchase and inventory needed supplies.
  • Manage annual Buildings & Grounds operations budget.
  • Arrange for Sunday morning Coffee Hour and other events–set up, troubleshoot, and clean up.

Maintain the grounds at 20 Lexington Road.

  • Arrange for landscaping and snow removal.
  • Keep First Parish in compliance with local and state ordinances.
  • Arrange for driveway parking and maintenance.

Maintain First Parish rental properties and parking.

  • Respond to tenant requests and supervise repairs.
  • Meet weekly with the properties’ liaison from the Trustees of Parish Donations to update status on ongoing and upcoming projects.

Participate in weekly staff and supervisor meetings; advise congregant committees.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in facilities management or a similar role.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents in English.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Computer experience and skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite: Word (documents) and Excel (spreadsheets), and Google gmail, calendar, and shared drives.
  • Ability to work Sunday through Thursday, adapt to work schedule changes, and be available during off hours in emergencies.
  • Experience in or around the building trades, working with contractors and subcontractors, including strong knowledge of HVAC , electrical, and plumbing systems; commercial kitchen onsite.
  • Experience working on historic (old) buildings
  • Basic financial skills (negotiating and approving proposals and invoices; managing building and grounds budget; cost-effective purchasing).
  • Attention to detail and ability to see the big picture.
  • Planning skills—both short- and long-term.
  • Willingness to perform any/all tasks, as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills—on the computer, with paper files, and with supplies.
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of state and local building codes, land-use restrictions, necessary inspections.
  • Sympathetic to the values of Unitarian Universalism.
  • Knowledge of congregational life.
